Little India & Kallang

District 8 stretches from the dense shophouse fabric of Little India through to the newer residential developments along the Kallang River. The range of building types is wide — pre-war shophouses, 1980s HDB blocks, mid-2000s condos, and recent waterfront launches all coexist within a few streets of each other.

Little India's shophouse rows often have rear-mounted condensers in narrow back lanes shared with food establishments. Grease and cooking exhaust from neighbouring units can coat condenser fins and block airflow over time.

HDB blocks in the Bendemeer and Kallang Bahru area are from the 1980s era, with concrete ledges sized for the smaller outdoor units of that period. Replacing with current models sometimes requires a bracket extension.

Newer condos along the Kallang waterfront are exposed to the basin's humidity and occasional flooding during heavy rain. Ground-floor units in these developments may see higher moisture levels around the outdoor unit.
