Diagnostics & repair

Best starting point for not-cold complaints, flashing lights, breaker trips, outdoor unit not running, or problems that stayed the same after servicing.

How we approach a repair

Most aircon repair calls go wrong at step one: the technician replaces a part without confirming the fault first. We don't do that. Every repair job starts with a structured diagnostic — we check each fault path in order and narrow down the cause before touching anything.

  • Airflow check: filter, coil, and blower condition
  • Refrigerant (gas) check: pressure readings and leak detection
  • Electrical check: capacitor, PCB, thermistor, and wiring
  • Controls check: remote, receiver, and mode behaviour

When diagnosis should come first (not servicing)

Some complaints sound like 'service' jobs but the pattern points to a fault check first. If the unit trips, flashes error lights, stops after startup, or stays not cold after a recent service, cleaning alone is often the wrong starting scope.

  • Unit is not cold and the problem started suddenly
  • Breaker trips, burning smell, or power instability
  • Flashing light / error code / intermittent shutdown
  • Outdoor unit not running while indoor fan still runs
  • Problem remains after recent servicing or chemical wash

Safety cases — stop using the unit and contact us

Some symptoms are not 'monitor and see' situations. Stop using the unit and isolate power if you notice electrical risk signs.

  • Burning smell or melted-plastic smell
  • Breaker trips repeatedly when the unit starts
  • Water near electrical points, wiring, or isolator
  • Sparking, arcing, or severe abnormal noise

What you get after the diagnostic

Once we know what's wrong, we give you a clear scope: what the fault is, what part or work it needs, and what it costs. If the repair is straightforward and parts are available, it may be completed on the same visit. If a specific part is needed, we explain the return-visit plan first. If the repair cost doesn't make sense against the age and condition of the unit, we tell you that too — we'd rather lose a repair job than have you spend money on a unit that won't last.

  • Fault confirmed before any work proceeds
  • Written scope: fault, fix, and cost
  • Same-visit repair when the fault is confirmed and parts are available
  • Return-visit plan if a specific part needs ordering
  • Honest advice on whether repair is worth it
  • No work done without your approval
  • You get a recommended next step even if you do not proceed immediately

What a diagnostic visit includes (and what it does not)

A diagnostic visit is for confirming the fault path and narrowing the actual cause. It is not a blanket deep-cleaning package. If a service issue is found instead of a repair fault, we tell you that and explain the right next step before doing more work.

  • Fault-path checks based on your symptom pattern
  • Electrical and control checks where relevant
  • Cooling / airflow / outdoor behaviour assessment
  • Clear explanation of what we found and why

What we repair

We handle the full range of split system faults — both wall-mounted and ceiling cassette units. Common repairs include:

  • Compressor and refrigerant (gas) circuit faults
  • PCB and control board replacement
  • Capacitor, fan motor, and blower replacement
  • Thermistor and temperature sensor faults
  • Drainage blockages causing water leaks
  • Remote receiver and display panel faults

When we advise repair vs replacement

We do not push repair on units that no longer make sense. The decision depends on the confirmed fault, unit age, condition, service history, and whether the repair is isolated or points to wider deterioration.

  • Isolated part fault on an otherwise healthy unit usually supports repair
  • Major repair on an old or poorly maintained unit may not be worth it
  • We explain the trade-off before you approve anything
