Controls & airflow problems

Remote control unresponsive, fan speed not changing, louvre stuck, or no airflow from the unit. Learn likely causes and troubleshooting steps.

Why your aircon controls or airflow are not responding

Control and airflow problems are often the easiest to diagnose because the signs are specific and visible. The remote does not work, the fan speed will not change, the louvre is stuck in one position, or no air comes out at all. Each points to a different component — remote sensor, PCB, fan motor, or louvre motor.

Start with the remote itself: replace the batteries, point it directly at the indoor unit's IR receiver, and check for obstructions. If the unit responds to the on-unit button but not the remote, the remote or its sensor is the issue. If it does not respond to either, the indoor PCB may have a fault.

Weak or absent airflow with the fan running usually means a severely clogged filter or blower wheel. If the fan is not spinning at all, the fan motor or its capacitor has likely failed. A louvre that does not swing is typically a stripped louvre motor gear — a common wear item that is straightforward to replace.
