Worse after servicing traced to loose drain cover
Aircon case in Serangoon, Singapore: post-service issue traced to drain pan cover not reseated correctly after chemical wash after targeted diagnosis checks.
Case details
What client reported
The aircon was working fine before they came. After the chemical wash, it started dripping water and the cooling feels weaker than before. I called them back but they said everything was done correctly.
What we found
When symptoms appear immediately after a service, the most likely cause is something disturbed during the work. We inspected the indoor unit assembly before looking at anything else.
- Water dripping from the front-bottom edge of the indoor unit — not from the drain pipe
- Drain pan cover was not fully clipped back into position — one side was sitting loose
- The gap allowed condensate to run forward instead of channelling to the drain pipe
- Blower wheel was installed slightly off-centre, reducing airflow and contributing to weaker cooling
The drain pan cover hadn't been reseated properly after the chemical wash. This is a reassembly step that's easy to miss if the work is rushed. The loose cover created a path for water to escape forward. The blower wheel position also contributed to the reduced airflow.
What we did
Nothing was broken. We reseated the drain pan cover correctly, repositioned the blower wheel, and tested drainage. Both issues resolved without any parts or additional repair work.
Water dripping stopped immediately after the cover was reseated. Cooling returned to its pre-service strength once the blower was correctly positioned. No parts needed — just corrected reassembly.
Timeline
Day 1
Chemical wash completed — water dripping and weaker cooling noticed afterward
Same day
Inspected internal unit assembly for anything disturbed or unseated during service
Same day
Drain cover reseated and blower repositioned — water stopped, cooling restored
What we learned
What to check after a chemical wash.
- Water dripping after servicing is usually a reassembly issue — drain pan cover, drain pipe, or housing not seated properly
- Airflow drop after service can mean the blower wheel wasn't reinstalled correctly
- Post-service problems have a cause — a second inspection usually finds it quickly
