Aircon fan speed not changing

When fan speed does not change, the issue may be command, control, or airflow behavior. The key is whether the unit receives the command and whether airflow changes at all.

Common causes

These are likely causes for this symptom. Compare them with what you are seeing now to narrow it down. This is indicative only. To confirm the problem, contact us.

01. Command path not reaching the unit

Book a check

The remote command appears to change, but the indoor unit does not receive or apply the fan speed request.

  • Other commands may also feel delayed or ignored.
  • No audible change happens after a fan speed command.
  • Airflow stays the same across repeated command attempts.

Solution: We confirm command reception before we move to fan motor or board fault assumptions.

Remarks: Replacing the fan motor too early can miss a simple command path issue.

02. Mode behavior limiting speed changes

Book a check

Some operating conditions reduce how much the fan speed change is felt, so the unit appears stuck even when the command is accepted.

  • The issue appears only in certain modes or room conditions.
  • Cooling remains stable but airflow difference is hard to notice.
  • The pattern changes when the room load changes.

Solution: We compare command behavior and actual airflow pattern before labeling it as a component fault.

Remarks: This can be mistaken for a PCB issue when the system behavior is normal for the condition.

03. Indoor fan control fault with unstable airflow response

Message now

A fan control fault can hold airflow at one behavior or change it unpredictably regardless of command input.

  • Airflow response is inconsistent or suddenly drops while commands stay the same.
  • Indoor sound pattern changes without matching the selected fan speed.
  • The issue appears with other indoor control symptoms or noise.

Solution: Stop repeated command testing and let us assess fan response and indoor control behavior together.

Remarks: Long repeated testing can hide the real pattern if the fault is intermittent.

Other possible causes

The unit may adjust airflow in a way that makes manual speed differences feel small in certain room conditions or modes. This can look like no response even when the command is accepted.

How to tell

  • Cooling stays stable and there are no other control issues.
  • The behavior changes when operating mode or room load changes.
  • There is no abnormal noise, smell, or jitter in the indoor fan pattern.

If the unit ignores commands across different conditions, treat it as a diagnosis issue.

Before you contact us (optional)

Observe the command and airflow pattern without opening the unit:

  • Airflow strength: Whether the display / remote indicates the speed change even when airflow does not change
  • Other remote commands: Whether other remote commands respond normally at the same time / not observed
  • Sound pattern: Whether the sound pattern changes when you send the fan speed command / not observed
  • Mode coverage: Whether the issue happens in all modes / only one mode pattern

Stop using the unit if you notice these

Fan speed issues are often diagnosis level issues, but stop use if safety signs appear.

  • Burning smell or electrical smell
  • Heavy vibration or scraping noise from the indoor unit
  • Breaker trips during fan behavior changes
