Aircon Coil Replacement in Singapore

The evaporator coil (indoor) and condenser coil (outdoor) are the two heat exchangers in your system. When a coil corrodes, develops a leak, or loses fin integrity, cleaning alone cannot fix it. We confirm the coil is the problem and advise on repair vs replacement.

How we approach coil replacement

  • Confirm the coil is the leak source

Recurring gas loss is not always the coil. We pressure-test the system and pinpoint the exact leak location before recommending a coil swap.

  • We tell you when replacement makes more sense

If the coil replacement cost approaches a new system, we tell you. No point replacing a coil in a unit that is already at end of life.

  • Full recommissioning after replacement

A coil swap means vacuum, nitrogen leak test, and a measured recharge. We do not shortcut the process — it affects how long the repair lasts.

Signs of a coil problem

Coil faults usually show up as recurring gas loss, reduced cooling, or visible damage. These symptoms overlap with other issues, so diagnosis matters.

  • Refrigerant needs topping up repeatedly — sign of a coil leak
  • Cooling output drops even after servicing and gas top-up
  • Visible corrosion, rust, or green oxidation on the coil surface
  • Fins are badly bent, crushed, or missing in large sections
  • Ice forming on part of the evaporator coil
  • Water leak that persists after drain line clearing

How coil diagnosis works

We confirm the coil is the leak source before recommending replacement. Recurring gas loss can also come from flare joints, valve cores, or piping — not just the coil.

  1. 1. Leak detection

We use nitrogen pressure testing and electronic leak detection to pinpoint the leak location. This tells us whether the coil, piping, or a joint connection is the source.

  2. 2. Coil condition assessment

We inspect the coil for corrosion depth, fin damage, and overall condition. Surface corrosion may be manageable. Through-wall corrosion means the coil cannot be repaired.

  3. 3. Repair vs replace decision

A single pinhole leak on an otherwise healthy coil may be repairable. Widespread corrosion or multiple leak points means replacement is the only lasting fix.

  4. 4. Coil sourcing

We source the correct replacement coil for your unit model. For discontinued models, we confirm whether a compatible aftermarket coil is available before proceeding.

  5. 5. Replacement and recommissioning

The old coil is removed, the new one is fitted, and the system is vacuumed, leak-tested, and recharged. We test-run the unit to confirm normal cooling and drainage.

Pricing

Coil replacement is one of the more expensive repairs. Cost depends on the coil type, unit capacity, and refrigerant. We confirm all costs before starting.

  • Diagnostic visit includes leak detection and coil inspection
  • Evaporator and condenser coils are priced separately
  • Replacement includes vacuum, recharge, and leak test
  • No work starts until you agree to the full quote

Booking and visit timing

Diagnosis is done on the first visit. Coil replacement requires sourcing and is scheduled as a follow-up.

  • Diagnostic visit typically completed within an hour
  • Coil sourcing depends on brand, model, and availability
  • Replacement visit takes several hours including recommissioning
  • We confirm the full timeline once we identify the coil needed

Evaporator vs condenser coil

The two coils serve different roles and fail in different ways. Knowing which coil is affected determines the repair scope and cost.

  • Evaporator coil sits inside the indoor unit — absorbs heat from the room
  • Condenser coil sits in the outdoor unit — rejects heat to the outside
  • Indoor coils corrode from moisture and chemical exposure over time
  • Outdoor coils corrode from rain, salt air, and environmental exposure
  • Evaporator replacement requires indoor unit disassembly
  • Condenser replacement requires outdoor unit disassembly and gas recovery

Why coils fail in Singapore

The local climate and building environment accelerate coil degradation. Understanding the cause helps set expectations for the replacement coil lifespan.

  • Humidity and condensation promote surface corrosion on indoor coils
  • Coastal and high-rise exposure accelerates outdoor coil corrosion
  • Acidic chemical wash residue can damage coil surfaces over time
  • Poor drainage raises moisture contact with the evaporator
  • Age — most coils have a natural lifespan before corrosion wins

When coil replacement may not be worth it

A new coil is a major investment. For older units, the total cost may approach the price of a new system. We give you the numbers.

  • Unit is older than eight to ten years with other worn components
  • Coil replacement cost exceeds half the price of a new unit
  • Compressor or other major parts are also showing signs of failure
  • Refrigerant type is being phased out — future recharges will cost more
